Data Journalist

Summary

The Data Journalist role is multifaceted; you will be responsible for re-energizing the firm’s consulting data visualization strategy. This includes working hand-in-hand with consultants to understand how they utilize data to make recommendations and determine enhancements to the visual components of our client-facing work.

You will be responsible for designing visually appealing, compelling, and scalable presentations and implementing corresponding style guides and templates across the firm.  You will also weigh-in on the use of digital media channels to create compelling marketing strategies and content. 

We are looking for a resource that can translate complex information and combine narratives and visual forms into compelling deliverables.  The ideal candidate will be able to develop innovative solutions to our clients’ needs by combining analytical and creative skills.

Key Responsibilities

  • Establish and promote new design guidelines, best practices and standards in collaboration with consultants and senior leadership
  • Conceptualize original design ideas and re-work current visualizations to bring simplicity and user-friendliness/interpretation
  • Present and defend designs and key milestone deliverables to senior leadership
  • Develop implementation strategy and training for staff
  • Execute all visual design from concept to implementation for scaled solutions, customized projects, and dozens of client deliverables each year

Core Competencies

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, marketing or a related field
  • At least 2-3 years' working experience in graphic design
  • Demonstrable design skills with a strong portfolio
  • Excellent visual design skills with sensitivity to user interaction with data
  • Proficiency in Photoshop, Illustrator, or other visual design tools
  • Experience with data visualization tools and/or statistics software a plus
  • Ability to present designs/sell solutions to various stakeholders
  • Strong analytical skills and data-driven thinking
  • Up-to-date with latest graphic design trends, techniques, and technologies
  • Desire to innovate and improve practices and processes
  • Ability to work independently and drive outcomes
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively across an organization-- drive innovative solutions through to conclusion
